What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) ?
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of designing a website specifically for search engines with the goal of obtaining the highest possible rankings according to selected keywords.

In other words, making your site more search engine friendly, so your site can be easily crawled by search engine spiders and index it in their own databases marking them as having one or another keyword in its content. Thus, when someone puts in a query in the search box of that search engine, it quickly searches its database and finds which indexed pages corresponded to that query.

Why is SEO important ?
It is estimated that over 85% of people use the Internet to search for products or services with the intent of purchasing. SEO makes sure your website has all the necessary criteria to be positioned on search results. Otherwise, your website has no chance of being found by potential customers.

How long does it take to get my website listed on search engines ?
Each search engine is different. Generally, it takes anywhere from 3-12 weeks for search engines to crawl and index your site.


Why is my site not showing up in search engines such as: Google, MSN, Yahoo, Excite, Lycos, or the other major search engine's ?
There can be many reasons a web site doesn't show up, or display well, in search engine results. Any of the following can affect on your web site's search engine positioning, and web traffic.
  1. Your site may not be optimised for search engines to crawl and index.
  2. Your site may not be readable by the engines, again it's an optimisation issue.
  3. Your site may be missing information critical to properly index your webpage.
  4. Heavy use of Java Script or Flash animation can prevent search engine spiders or bots from crawling your web site or reading its content.
  5. Let's hope that, your site has not been banned or penalised by the search engine for some black hat tricks in order to gain rank #1.
Please note: Repeated submissions to search engines will not help. This is unnecessary, and can be considered spam by some engines and major directories.

To get your site displayed on the first page.
  1. Search engine friendly web design is a must.
  2. Flash web sites can't be read by search engines, try and avoid it at all cost.
  3. Minimise the heavy use of Java Script.
  4. Conduct extensive keyword research and include it in your content.
  5. Build back links, such as, inbound links to your site to help build Page Rank and improve search results.
  6. Try to make the keywords more relevant to the sites content.
  7. Black hat, never employ cunning methods to fool search engines or visitors. Your site is more likely to get black listed.

Search friendly design allows search engines to easily crawl your site.
  1. Search engines can't read or index Flash animation and heavy use of Java Scripts.
  2. Many search engines and directories consider Automated Submissions as SPAM and may ban your site.

Many search engine submission companies perform monthly or regular search engine submissions claiming this will improve your search results. This is contrary to most search engine guidelines, odds are, your site may be blacklisted. Submit your site only once and do not submit it every month.

your site need only be re-submitted if it has been removed from the index, in which case you should first correct the problems that caused it to be removed.
